Confirmation

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society and the world... We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.

Every person seeking the sacrament of Confirmation is asked to choose a sponsor to help guide them on their faith journey. A sponsor should be:

16 years of age or older and have received the sacrament of Confirmation
A practicing Catholic devoted to their faith

A person should choose a sponsor who will act as a spiritual guide, a positive role model and influence, and someone who will continue to pray for them throughout their life.

Being a sponsor is both a blessing and a responsibility.

Those preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation are asked to pick a saint. This saint acts as a heavenly guide through the process of Confirmation preparation as well as throughout the rest of your life. A saint should be chosen the same way you would pick a best friend. Look for a saint who has something in common with you, or who would be someone you would turn to when you are in need of advice.

As Catholics, we do not pray TO the saints, but ask the saints to intercede and pray for us from heaven. We can talk to them and ask them to be with us while we are here on earth.
